Why didn’t someone tell me that
I have only one chance to live,
one time around?
Why wasn’t I told that
I would only be a high school grad once,
fall in love the first time only once?
Why didn’t I know that
each day comes but once,
and those choices, feelings, events, moments
will never be here again?
And my children will only be 2 ½ once,
start school once,
and grow up once?
And friends golden moments pass only one time,
time to say I love you one time?
Why wasn’t I told that
I will not be 19 or 25 or 37 or 49 or 68 again,
or that
time gains speed?

"our years come to an end like a sigh.
The years of our life are threescore and ten,
or even by reason of strength fourscore;
yet their span is but toil and trouble;
they are soon gone, and we fly away.
So teach us to number our days
that we may get a heart of wisdom." (PSALM 90)
"LORD, let me know my end,
and what is the measure of my days;
let me know how fleeting my life is!
Behold, thou hast made my days a few handbreadths,
and my lifetime is as nothing in thy sight.
Surely every man stands as a mere breath! [Selah]
Surely man goes about as a shadow!
Surely for nought are they in turmoil;
man heaps up, and knows not who will gather!" (PSALM 39)
